Denza Z Convertible Debuts at Beijing Auto Show: 1000 HP EV

The Denza Z convertible, an electric grand tourer with over 1000 hp, debuted at Beijing Auto Show. Pre-production model heads to Goodwood in July.
Exactly one year ago, the Denza Z coupe concept was unveiled in Shanghai. Now, its open-top version has made its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The presentation was once again led by Wolfgang Egger, design director of BYD since 2016, who previously worked at Alfa Romeo, Seat, Lancia, Audi, and Lamborghini. Compared to the coupe, the convertible has a less aggressive aerodynamic kit and is positioned as an elegant grand tourer with a 2+2 seating layout. Still, performance is said to be on par with genuine supercars: the 0-100 km/h sprint should take just about two seconds.© B. What is known is that each wheel is driven by its own electric motor—four in total—and combined output exceeds 1000 hp. The chassis is expected to have been tuned at the legendary Nürburgring, though it’s unlikely the Denza Z will beat the lap record of the more powerful Yangwang U9 hypercar (a brand also owned by BYD). The question of hybrid variants remains open for now.
