The Heavy Commercial Vehicle Market closed the first quarter of 2026 with a controlled contraction…
Although the Turkish heavy commercial vehicle market experienced a contraction in the first quarter of 2026 due to the impact of global and regional developments, it was revealed that the sector maintained its balanced structure by reaching levels close to long-term averages.

March data announced by the Heavy Commercial Vehicles Association (TAID) shows that although there is a slowdown in the market overall, the contraction remains at controlled levels. In the first quarter of 2026, the total heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 12% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 6,967 units. When examined on a segment basis; tractor sales were recorded as 3,177 units, truck sales of 16 tons and above were recorded as 2,804 units, and truck sales under 16 tons were recorded as 986 units. When evaluated specifically for March, a total of 2,965 vehicles were sold.
Despite the periodic contraction, the sector remained at a balanced level in the long-term perspective. Within the scope of the 16 tons and above truck and tractor segments, the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 5% compared to the March average of the last 10 years. During this period, the truck segment grew by 20%, while the tractor segment decreased by 5%.
The semi-trailer market showed a similar trend, shrinking by 8% in the January-March period of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching a total of 2,348 units.
Results in the first quarter are a natural reflection of global dynamics
Commenting on the issue, TAID Chairman of the Board of Directors, Burak Hoşgören, emphasized that geopolitical developments, economic fluctuations and access to financing conditions on a global scale are decisive on the sector and said: “The contraction observed in the market in the first quarter of 2026 is not specific to Türkiye alone; it is a reflection of a process directly linked to global trade flows and economic outlook. However, when we look at the long-term averages, we see that the basic dynamics of our sector remain strong. The performance observed especially in the truck segment indicates that a sustainable demand for the needs of the domestic market continues.” “It does.”
Hoşgören continued his words as follows: “Areas such as transportation, logistics and infrastructure investments are the sectors in which heavy Commercial Vehicles serve. The activities carried out in these areas continue to create a positive basis for our sector in the medium and long term. We expect more balanced, planned and need-oriented fleet investments to come to the fore in the coming period.”
The driving force of the economy: Heavy commercial vehicle sector
As TAID, the sector; Emphasizing that production, export and logistics activities continue to be the cornerstone of production, Hoşgören underlined that heavy Commercial Vehicles are one of the most important indicators of economic activity; “We evaluate the current situation within the framework of temporary fluctuations. Our sector has a strong structure that can quickly adapt to changing conditions today, as in the past. Together with the public, private sector and all our stakeholders, we will take steps to support sustainable growth more clearly in the coming period.” We believe that it will show its effect.”
