Testing a single EV platform in six cities across four continents is an unusually big bet for a universal urban mobility solution The EU-funded GIANTS project has reached month 30 of its 42-month timeline and is moving into real-world demonstration, with Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Clean Motion contributing to the EVIG platform as an OEM partner. The 24-partner Horizon Europe consortium will now focus on vehicle integration and testing at Living Labs in Barcelona, Gothenburg, Kisumu, Delhi, Pune and Manila. The total budget of the project is 15 million Euros [US$17.4 million] It will run from January 2024 to June 2027. During the first 30 months, the consortium established the technical foundations of the GIANTS platform, created advanced vehicle and component designs, developed digital twin capabilities, and prepared for large-scale validation. Clean Motion’s research, development and production operations are based in Jonsered, making Gothenburg one of six validation facilities specifically related to work on the EVIG platform. “GIANTS is making good progress and we are pleased with what the consortium has achieved over the last 30 months. At Clean Motion, we are actively working on prototype development and look forward to demonstrating what this platform can do in real urban environments next year,” William Collings, Chief Technology Officer at Clean Motion, said in a statement.
