Waste tires pose serious risks to the environment and human health when not disposed of correctly. AKO Group brings waste tires into the economy with its End-of-Life Tire (OTL) Recycling Facility and makes a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions. The facility, which has an annual capacity of 75 thousand tons, offers strong support to Türkiye’s zero waste target.
The rapidly increasing amount of waste tires around the world and in Türkiye stands out as a critical problem in terms of environmental sustainability. While tires disposed of by burning cause the release of toxic gases, when left uncontrolled in nature, they do not decompose for many years and threaten soil and water resources. While recycling processes are of great importance in solving this problem, AKO Group strengthens its environmentally friendly production approach with the investments it has made in line with the zero waste approach.
Qualified raw materials such as rubber and steel obtained from waste tires recycled at the AKO ÖTL Recycling Facility are brought back into the economy. This process both saves energy and contributes to the country’s economy by reducing the need for imported raw materials.
Brings a sustainable solution to Türkiye’s waste tire burden
AKO Group aims to minimize the damage caused by waste tires to the environment with its End-of-Life Tire (OTL) Recycling Facility. The facility, which has a total open area of 80 thousand square meters and a closed area of 21 thousand square meters, can eliminate approximately one quarter of the tire waste generated in Türkiye in a year with its annual recycling capacity of 75 thousand tons of waste tires.
The facility, which was implemented with an investment of approximately 30 million dollars, plays an important role in reducing carbon emissions in addition to its contribution to the Zero Waste Project. With the facility operating at full capacity, it becomes possible to prevent 834 thousand tons of carbon emissions annually, and this amount creates an effect equivalent to the carbon reduction provided by approximately 250 thousand trees in a year.
