Developing electrification and automation solutions for a sustainable and resource-efficient future, ABB has achieved significant success within the scope of Mission to Zero™ – Net Zero Mission at its Sasbach production facility in Germany. Thanks to the renewable energy investments, electrification applications and digital energy management solutions implemented within the framework of the program, the facility both increased its operational durability and significantly reduced carbon emissions.

In Sasbach, one of ABB’s 37 facilities worldwide included in the Mission to Zero program; A data-driven decarbonization roadmap based on energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart energy management is being implemented. The facility, which produces panels and energy distribution systems, is shown as one of the concrete examples of low-carbon transformation in industry.
Given that manufacturing and production account for nearly a fifth of global carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency and expanding electrification are critical to achieving Europe’s climate goals. The Mission to Zero™ program implemented at the Sasbach facility clearly demonstrates that businesses can reduce carbon emissions while maintaining reliable and competitive operations.
Approximately 2,700 tonnes of the total 3,786 tonnes of emission reduction provided within the scope of the program was obtained from certified renewable energy supply, and approximately 1,086 tonnes was obtained from on-site efficiency and electrification practices. Approximately 550 tons of this on-site reduction was provided by the solar energy system with increased capacity. 3,410 photovoltaic modules in the facility produce approximately 1,500 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. This amount corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 400 households.
The electricity generated by the facility itself meets approximately one-third of its total energy needs, providing protection against fluctuations in energy prices and supporting long-term energy security. The new transformer station established enables the stable integration of renewable energy into the facility infrastructure. Emission reduction; It is supported by electrical production systems, energy efficiency applications and digital energy management solutions.
Mike Mustapha, Head of ABB Electrification Smart Buildings Division, said in his statement: “The steps we have taken in Sasbach show the concrete results of our Mission to Zero™ program on the field. Thanks to renewable energy investments, electrification and digital energy management, we strengthen energy resilience and operational stability while reducing carbon emissions. The key to sustainable transformation in the production sector is through such applicable and measurable steps.”
