GM celebrates 11 million vehicles at Fort Wayne plant

GM’s Fort Wayne plant produced its 11 millionth vehicle, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country, reaffirming the brand’s leadership in full-size trucks.
General Motors has reached a remarkable manufacturing milestone: Its Fort Wayne, Indiana, plant has produced its 11 millionth vehicle since its opening. The commemorative model was a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country, given as a gift to a company employee. The Fort Wayne plant, in operation since 1986, is a major GM facility for truck production. It brings together lightweight versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models, which form the backbone of the automaker’s sales in the United States. The landmark vehicle went to GM employee Ken Zavis, underscoring the event’s internal importance. The Silverado 1500 High Country is the truck’s premium trim. While standard power comes from a 5.3-liter V8, an optional 6.2-liter engine producing 420 horsepower is also offered. Also available is a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine that focuses on high torque, which is important for towing and commercial use. The model includes modern comfort features such as a large infotainment screen and Bose sound system. The plant employs more than 4,100 people and remains a vital part of GM’s manufacturing network. The company led the full-size pickup truck segment in the United States for six consecutive years. This production record confirms the continued demand for conventional trucks, with the next generation of the Silverado and Sierra expected to be launched in 2026. 11 million vehicles is not just a number; It reflects GM’s stability in a critical segment.
