Wet start… Ferrari began its work program in Barcelona on the second day, but found the track in less than optimal conditions, given that the rain at the start of the session intensified around 90 minutes into the session.
Charles Leclerc still managed to complete 64 laps without any particular problems despite the damp and then wet asphalt. The important thing for the SF-26 was to bring home data, evaluate the reliability and functioning of the various systems and the power unit. We’ll see about performance later. Curious that both during the shakedown in Fiorano and that in Barcelona, the red car encountered rain. Leclerc’s words To the official Formula 1 microphones, Charles Leclerc summed up his morning on the track as follows: “Being back in the car was nice, even more so in a very different car from the ones we have driven up until now. For the moment it’s just a matter of trying to understand if everything is working correctly and in fact it is. The conditions were not the best because it rained a bit, but we completed the entire planned program because we are not concentrating on performance. The focus is on the analysis of all the new systems of this car, to see if everything works as it should. And it did, so it’s positive.” Leclerc obviously did not want to say too much about the sensations that the SF-26 gave him: “We carried out a preliminary check of the car and it went well, little by little we will review all the systems, until we get to what matters most, namely the performance. But I think we will do this a little later in these three days”.
The Monegasque from Ferrari then concluded: “I am very excited and curious to see what our rivals have in store and, when we push, to find out where we will be compared to the others. This year will be a great opportunity for each team to do something different and I hope that we will be able to make the difference. We will push as hard as we can to bring Ferrari back to the top. Several years have passed since the last time and I hope that this can be our year.”
Leclerc: “Program completed despite the rain. Curious to see what the rivals have in store”
