Renault Group and Ford signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop two new Ford brand electric passenger vehicles based on Renault Group’s Ampere platform. In addition, the companies will explore cooperation opportunities in the commercial vehicle segment in Europe and jointly develop and produce selected light commercial vehicles under the Renault and Ford brands. This partnership will bring together the expertise and industrial scale of the two groups in Europe, increasing the competitiveness of both parties.
Renault Group and Ford entered into a strategic collaboration that combines their strengths in the field of electric mobility, which is rapidly gaining momentum in the European automotive market. This partnership will enable Ford to offer electric vehicles to European customers on a larger scale and significantly strengthen both companies’ positions in the increasingly competitive environment in the region.
The main focus of the collaboration is two new electric vehicle projects to be developed under the Ford brand. These models will be based on the Ampere platform, leveraging Renault Group’s strong assets and competitive advantage in the electric vehicle space. Production will be carried out by Renault Group in Northern France. Thus, the “cutting-edge” production capacity and expertise of Ampere’s ElectriCity facility will be demonstrated concretely, and this cooperation will stand out as a strategic step in Europe’s electric mobility transformation.
Designed by Ford and co-developed with Renault Group, the two new electric models will bring together the brand’s unique driving dynamics, authentic Ford DNA and intuitive user experiences. These two cars will be the first step of Ford’s comprehensive new product offensive in the European market. The first of these models will take its place in showrooms and meet consumers in early 2028.
Beyond the electric vehicle collaboration, Renault Group and Ford signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), which paves the way for a potential partnership in the light commercial vehicle segment in Europe. In line with this LOI, the parties will evaluate opportunities to work together on the joint development and production of selected light commercial vehicles (LCV) branded Renault and Ford. Thus, the two companies will create a comprehensive cooperation perspective for future mobility needs in Europe, both on the passenger and commercial vehicle side.
Evaluating the cooperation François Provost, CEO of Renault Group, He used the following statements: “We are very proud to launch a new strategic partnership with Ford, an iconic automobile manufacturer. This collaboration clearly demonstrates the level of our partnership experience and competitiveness in Europe. In the long term, joining forces with Ford will position us to be more innovative, more agile and more responsive to change in the rapidly transforming European automotive market.”
Ford Motor Company President and CEO Jim Farley He included the following sentences in his evaluation of the partnership: “The strategic collaboration we have established with Renault Group is a critical step for Ford and supports our strategy to create a highly efficient, future-proof business model in Europe. By combining Renault Group’s industrial scale and electric vehicle capabilities with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics, we will develop vehicles that are fun, capable and have Ford’s unique character at their soul.”
Renault-Ford cooperation in electric and light commercial vehicles will reshape the European market
The companies will produce two new Ford-branded electric passenger vehicles, leveraging the proven capabilities and competitiveness of Renault Group’s Ampere platform, its electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem and industrial capacities in Northern France (ElectriCity).
By combining their expertise as Europe’s leading players in innovation, design, software and service delivery, Groupe Renault and Ford will aim to overcome the challenges facing the industry and better serve customers in both the retail and commercial vehicle segments.
