ZF Friedrichshafen AG and BMW Group have signed a long-term supply agreement in the field of passenger car drive systems. The basis for the agreement is the further development and supply of the proven 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP). The agreement, worth billions of euros, will be valid until the end of the 2030s. This agreement creates a solid foundation for both companies to shape the technologically open, low-emission mobility of the future.

ZF CEO Mathias Miedreich said in his statement on the subject: “Together with BMW, we are sending a strong message about innovation, efficiency and sustainability in an industry that is going through a dynamic transformation process. This agreement emphasizes the strategic importance of our 8-speed automatic transmission, which is key to the transformation of driving systems.”
Within the scope of cooperation, the 8HP transmission kit will be continuously developed. Thus, it is aimed to offer customers the most powerful and efficient transmission that will meet the requirements of future driving concepts.
“The new agreement reached with BMW shows the importance of a long-term planning perspective for technological developments,” said Sebastian Schmitt, Head of ZF Electric Driving Technologies Division. Schmitt continued: “This agreement provides clarity and stability for both companies, enabling us to align the next generation 8HP, particularly in terms of efficiency, performance and long-term viability.”
ZF thus strengthens its position as a system supplier and further increases planning reliability. This close cooperation in the coming period will help reduce risks in rapidly changing market conditions and lay the foundation for the future of low-emission mobility.
