Volvo Buses launches articulated e-bus in Australia

The arrival of the BZL Electric Articulated vehicle tests whether Australia’s major cities are ready to increase high-capacity electric transport Volvo Buses has introduced Australia’s first electric articulated bus, the BZL Electric Articulated Volgren, for the Western Australian Public Transport Authority (PTA). The 18-metre, 57-seat vehicle expands a platform that already has more than 140 units operating nationally, following PTA’s first Volvo electric bus deployment in 2022. The e-bus is powered by a dual-motor EPT802 powertrain producing a combined 400 kW with 497 kW/h of total installed battery energy on 12 lithium iron phosphate cells and CCS2 charging support. Volgren, Australia’s largest bus body manufacturer, assembled the body at facilities in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. Building on four years of BZL Electric solid deployments, the model expands an established national operator base and support network. Volvo Buses has delivered more than 1,400 buses to PTA in over a decade. The explicitly stated model extends this relationship to high-capacity urban transportation.
