Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is re-entering South Africa’s fast-growing urban delivery market with the launch of the new Vivo Xpress, a purpose-built A0 city van designed to meet the evolving demands of modern businesses. Available for sale from February 2026, the Vivo Xpress signals a confident return to a segment shaped by e-commerce growth, last-mile logistics and the need for compact, efficient delivery solutions.
Kariega, 5 February 2026 – Demand for entry-level delivery vehicles has grown steadily in South Africa over recent years, driven by expanding online retail, urbanisation and the rise of fleet-based operations. In response, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has reintroduced the Vivo Xpress as a smart, secure and locally built solution, positioning it as the only South African-manufactured contender in the A0 City Van segment.
The Vivo Xpress name is not new to the market. First introduced in 2016, the original model was discontinued when no successor followed the launch of the second-generation Vivo in 2018. Since then, the landscape has changed dramatically. Today’s delivery operators require vehicles that are compact enough for urban environments yet robust enough to handle demanding workloads. The new Vivo Xpress has been developed with these priorities firmly in mind.
Designed for efficiency, payload and ease of access, the Vivo Xpress offers secure, enclosed storage without the need for an aftermarket canopy. This integrated design not only improves security but also enhances durability and everyday usability. Additional safety options such as Smash & Grab film or Window Guards further reinforce its suitability for high-frequency delivery and security operations.

Loading and unloading are made simple through wide-opening side and rear doors, allowing the Vivo Xpress to accommodate both small parcels and bulkier cargo with ease. With a payload capacity of 490 kg, it delivers one of the best load capabilities in its class, making it a practical choice for businesses that need to maximise efficiency without stepping up to a larger vehicle.
Power comes from Volkswagen’s proven and fuel-efficient 1.4-litre engine, producing a segment-leading 63 kW. This balance of performance and economy makes the Vivo Xpress particularly well suited to quick-response operations in urban and peri-urban environments, where reliability and running costs are critical considerations.
Ownership peace of mind is supported by a comprehensive aftersales offering. The Vivo Xpress is supplied with a standard 3-year or 120,000 km warranty, alongside a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are set at 15,000 km, and customers can further tailor their ownership experience with optional Easy Drive Service and Maintenance Plans.
The Vivo Xpress will be offered at a retail price of R279,990, including VAT and emissions tax, positioning it as a compelling value proposition for fleet operators, delivery services and security companies alike.
With the reintroduction of the Vivo Xpress, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles reinforces its commitment to locally built solutions that respond directly to market needs, delivering a compact city van that combines efficiency, payload capacity and everyday practicality in a rapidly expanding segment.
