Volkswagen has confirmed that full hybrid versions of the Golf are on the way. The model will join the automaker’s 2026 lineup and will share its powertrain with the upcoming T-Roc.These are full-hybrid systems based on the 1.5 TSI gasoline engine. Unlike the existing mild hybrids, the new setup allows the car to run on either the gasoline engine or electric power alone.The powertrain is expected to be offered in two outputs: 136 hp and 170 hp. It will operate in several modes, including as a series hybrid where the electric motor drives the wheels, and as a parallel hybrid where both engines work together.Brief all-electric driving at low speeds will also be possible. However, the Golf with this new system will only be available as a hatchback; no wagon version is planned.This marks a new chapter for Volkswagen. The brand previously focused on mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs, while full hybrid systems saw limited use.
