Toyota unveils a limited-edition office chair made from the Crown sedan’s front seat. Features power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and a USB port. Priced at $3,500, only 70 units available.
Toyota has unveiled an unusual product—an office chair built from the front seat of the Crown sedan. The new item combines automotive comfort with office furniture functionality and will be produced in limited numbers. The project was carried out by Toyota Boshoku, the division responsible for vehicle interiors. Instead of designing from scratch, engineers took a production Crown seat and adapted it into an office chair format. Only 70 units will be made, and if demand exceeds supply, buyers will be selected via lottery. The chair retains key automotive seat features: power adjustment, recline, lumbar support, heating, and ventilation. The base, armrests, and mechanisms were refined together with Japanese furniture company Itoki. An unusual touch is the seatbelt buckle, which now doubles as a USB port for charging devices.Toyota BoshokuPriced at 495,000 yen (about $3,500), it enters the premium office chair segment, competing with brands like Herman Miller. Sales will go through the premium network THE CROWN, underscoring the model’s status as a designer and image product.Toyota is demonstrating a new approach to using automotive technology beyond cars. The Crown chair is not just an accessory—it is an attempt to monetize comfort and engineering in adjacent segments.
