Mercedes is reliable With 334 laps completed between Monday and today in the Barcelona Shakedown, the Mercedes W17 is getting excellent responses from its car in terms of reliability. George Russell took to the track in the morning with 92 laps mainly on C1 Hard tyres, setting the best lap time at 1’17.580 which placed him in second place at the end of the day, 198 thousandths away from teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Russell’s comment George Russell analyzed his day on the track as follows, suggesting that Mercedes’ third track day will be tomorrow – weather permitting -: “From a reliability point of view, everything went relatively smoothly today, which is good for our overall programme. This test is about putting in the kilometers with the car and making sure everything is working as it should. That was the case today too, as Kimi and I were able to complete a large number of laps once again. The track temperature was just a few degrees above zero this morning, one of the coldest circuits I have ever driven, so the times are not very significant. The exciting moment will come when we go to Melbourne and we can understand where we are compared to our rivals now we are working hard and enjoying the process of preparing for the season ahead, which could be tomorrow, but it will depend on the weather.
