The new generation of Alpine A110 will arrive by the end of the year, marking the brand’s entry into the world of fully electric sports cars for the first time. Philippe Krief, head of the brand, defined the EV version as “the first true electric sports car” and promised superior performance compared to the best current thermal competitors. Designed on the new APP architecture shared with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, Autocar says that the new electric A110 will adopt 800 V technology, a light but rigid aluminum structure and a dual rear motor solution with active torque vectoring to maintain the sensation of lightness and dynamics typical of the A110, despite the weight of the batteries. The new electric Alpine A110 is arriving A new Alpine Dynamic Model control unit will coordinate the battery, motors, brakes, steering and active aerodynamics to maximize response and efficiency. Although the announcement confirms that the new A110 will be electric, Krief clarified that the platform has also been developed in a modular way to accommodate an internal combustion engine if necessary. Alpine until now had indicated the next A110 as exclusively electric, but the adaptability of the platform reflects Groupe Renault’s strategy to prepare for uncertain regulatory and market scenarios. Krief stressed that the thermal option is not an operational certainty, but a possibility that would make the A110 exportable to markets where electrification is less widespread, while maintaining the initial concentration on Europe. Debut by the end of the year The range of the new A110 will be broad and ambitious, including coupé, spider and 2+2 versions to compete with traditional rivals such as the Porsche 911. The architecture includes two separate battery packs to achieve a weight balance close to 40:60 front-rear and maintain the characteristic silhouette of the current A110. Integral aluminum suspensions, integrated braking and steering systems and, as a possible alternative, solutions with motors integrated into the wheels are also envisaged.
