Ready in 5 Minutes, Filled in 9 Minutes, Cold Added 3: FLASH Charging makes its UK debut

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (all-electric and rechargeable hybrid), has presented its game-changing FLASH Charging technology at its UK Headquarters in Uxbridge; this was the first demonstration of the technology in the UK.

FLASH Charging represents a significant breakthrough in BYD’s goal to eliminate the last remaining barriers to EV adoption. FLASH Charging combined with the latest Blade Battery 2.0 allows for up to 1500kW of power via a single connector.

FLASH Charging offers ‘Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add in 3’ for incredible charging speeds. Battery charge can be increased from 5% to 70% (“Ready”) in just five minutes, 10-97% charge (“Full”) in nine minutes, and 20-97% charge (“Add 3”) in just 12 minutes at -30°C.

This astonishing achievement was demonstrated to invited press, industry and VIP guests by the DENZA Z9 GT, the first vehicle to accept FLASH Charging on the UK market. Based on the WLTP Combined range of 372 miles, a five-minute charge can add 223 miles of range, while a nine-minute charge can add 323 miles of range.

Attendees also witnessed the intuitive design of FLASH Chargers. The T-shaped charging dock has two cables, each suspended vertically on a rail. These two features not only make connecting to a vehicle much easier than traditional chargers, regardless of where the charging port is, but they also prevent the cable from getting wet or dirty by dragging it on the ground.

Just as important as charging speeds is the fact that FLASH Charging does not require any more significant infrastructure from the grid than other existing and slower electric vehicle chargers. The energy required to charge the vehicles is provided from the on-site battery tank, whose charge is gradually increased at any time of the day when necessary; From 100kW to 560kW depending on demand. Therefore, the rollout will be rapid; It is planned to install 300 chargers in DENZA stores and other locations by the end of 2026.
