Missed opportunity Following last year’s Dutch Grand Prix, when world leader Oscar Piastri left Zandvoort with a 34-point lead over his teammate Lando Norris, the Australian McLaren driver faced a series of poor results that allowed both Norris and Verstappen to close in on the 24-year-old, with the latter missing out on a great opportunity to become world champion for the first time in his career. The American difficulties A goal achieved by Norris instead, in a fight for the world championship that remained open until the last race of the world championship in Abu Dhabi. Now, while waiting for the 2026 season, Piastri focused on some points on which he must and will have to work to improve his performances compared to the last championship: “I think that at the moment it is a question of identifying which elements can actually be transferred from last year to this year, because the cars are very different, the engines and power units are so different that it makes no sense to waste a lot of time on specific aspects of 2025 that will not even be applicable this year – he explained to The Fast and The Curious – so, I think the things I wanted to improve were very specific aspects of certain weekends. Austin and Mexico were the two main ones from a driving perspective where things didn’t work, but there’s no point in wasting hours of your life trying to improve those aspects when they could be completely different this year. So, I think about those kind of little things, and then I just think about some of the processes that we have as a team, some of the decisions and situations that we had last year Let’s face these things.” Over the course of his career, Piastri achieved a best result of 5th place on both the Austin and Mexican circuits in Texas. Last season, the Australian was the protagonist of a weekend to forget, especially in the United States, with the accident that occurred with Norris in the Sprint before finishing 5th in the race.
