OCSiAl’s Serbian supply base provides PowerCo with a European lead for a material central to high-performance battery cell design OCSiAl has been appointed as supplier to Volkswagen Group’s battery manufacturing subsidiary PowerCo, providing single-walled carbon nanotubes for use in graphite anodes for the Combined Cell battery platform at its Salzgitter plant. The agreement expands OCSiAl’s footprint in Europe and supports local sourcing of critical battery materials across the continent. The nanotubes will be supplied from OCSiAl’s Serbia production facility, which has completed inspections carried out by PowerCo and other European and Asian battery manufacturers. The company reported that TUBALL nanotubes are currently used in the majority of European electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturers and are used in cathode and anode systems to improve energy density, fast charging performance and cell cycle life. OCSiAl announced a US$300 million nanotube manufacturing facility in Luxembourg in November 2025 and continues to evaluate further European capacity to meet long-term demand. Gregory Gurevich, Senior Vice President of OCSiAl, said in a statement: “Today, batteries containing OCSiAl nanotubes power nearly one million electric vehicles worldwide. In the PowerCo project, we are providing nanotube solutions for graphite anodes. Single-walled carbon nanotubes significantly increase the electrical conductivity of graphite anodes and improve heat dissipation, allowing battery cells to operate at higher charge and discharge currents without overheating. These advanced conductive additives are essential for high performance. On an industrial scale produced battery platforms.”
