The next-generation Chevrolet Camaro will offer a six-speed manual and automatic transmission, retaining its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. While a four-door body is possible, the manual gearbox and V8 engine keep the muscle car spirit alive.
According to insider information, the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro will retain an internal combustion engine and offer two transmission options: an automatic and a six-speed manual. This is an important signal for fans of the model, even though the body of the future Camaro may no longer be a classic coupe. The biggest news for enthusiasts is the retention of three pedals. In an era when even the Chevrolet Corvette C8 is only available with an automatic, a manual gearbox for the Camaro feels like a nod to the old school. The new model is expected to keep a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. This will allow Chevrolet to maintain a connection with previous Camaro generations, despite a possible change in body style. The Camaro is likely to be built on the updated Alpha 2 architecture, known as Alpha 2-2. This same platform is expected to underpin future Cadillac CT5 models and a new Buick sedan.Sources indicate that the Camaro might drop the two-door coupe in favor of a four-door midsize body style. Externally, it would not be a classic sedan but rather a more sporty model with an unconventional silhouette.Chevrolet is trying to strike a balance between fans and real demand. Classic coupes are becoming harder to sell, while more practical sporty models have a better chance of commercial success. The future Camaro could compete against the next-generation Dodge Charger, sporty sedans and liftbacks, and powerful electric vehicles. However, the combination of an internal combustion engine, rear-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox would help the model maintain its uniqueness. The new Camaro may be a compromise between legend and market reality. Four doors will spark debate, but the manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive give Chevrolet a chance to preserve the model’s core driving character.
