First ‘home’ race for Ford The first of three events in the United States represents a new home race for Red Bull given that the Milton Keynes team has entered into a partnership with Ford for the construction of the power unit. For now the ‘newborn’ engine on the Red Bull-Ford axis has given excellent results, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the RB22 which proved to be overweight and lacking in terms of performance, especially when cornering. The break served everyone to intervene on the single-seaters and Red Bull presents itself in Miami with an updated and lightened RB22 (according to estimates reported by the newspaper De Telegraaf the extra weight has been halved from 12 to 6-7 kilos): “Everyone worked at full speed in Milton Keynes on the chassis and the power unit, with the involvement of Max and Isack too – said team principal Laurent Mekies – we don’t expect to have solved all the problems at once, but we are certainly aiming to provide Max and Isack with a car that they feel more comfortable with and that they can push hard at. Ultimately, only the Miami circuit will tell us how well we have done and how much we still have to improve. The Miami GP is also the first of three races to be held in the United States this season and is therefore a significant moment for us, as it marks the North American debut of the Red Bull Ford engines.”
