The decision to stop A few days after the presentation of the new Mercedes W17, the Brackley team has announced an important change within its team: John Owen, Director of Car Design, has in fact decided to take a break from F1, and will leave his position by the end of the year only after having ensured the transition to his successor. Present at Mercedes since 2007, Owen has played a key role in the team’s recent history, contributing significantly to the nine Constructors’ successes achieved by the Anglo-German manufacturer. The car that will start the next championship also coincides with the seventeenth designed under his responsibility. ‘Italian’ Mercedes While awaiting Owen’s termination from his role, Mercedes has already made the name of his successor official: by implementing an internal promotion, Giacomo Tortora will fill the role of Director of Car Design. The other ‘blue’, Simone Resta, will supervise the group in the role of Deputy Technical Director.
