
Meet the new luxury electric SUV Leapmotor D19, introduced in Beijing. It offers up to 724 HP power, 720 km range and technological design at a competitive price.
Leapmotor D19 was introduced in China as the brand’s new flagship to strengthen its position in the large electric SUV segment. At the Beijing stand, the car was shown with a white bodywork, closed front end, slim lighting, recessed handles and a wide rear light bar with the Leapmotor logo. Visually, the D19 looks simpler than many new Chinese models, but that’s the company’s bet: it’s betting on a family format geared towards technology rather than aggression.

Its dimensions make the D19 a direct competitor to large Chinese crossovers and family flagships. It promises a spacious three-row cabin with a length of 5,252 mm, while its starting price of 219,800 yuan makes it noticeably more affordable than some of its premium rivals. For the Chinese market, this is a strong statement: buyers are getting a large vehicle with a range comparable to the expensive electric cars and equipment that until recently were associated with pricier brands. Leapmotor D19 is available with two types of motors. The extended-range hybrid version uses a 1.5-liter turbo engine as a generator, while two electric motors provide a total of 402 HP. Battery options for this model are 63.7 and 80.3 kWh, allowing the crossover to travel between 400 and 500 km on electricity alone. EREV is one of the best figures in its segment. The all-electric version has a dual-motor configuration producing up to 550 HP with 99.6 or 115 kWh batteries providing a range of 620 to 720 km. A three-motor version with 724 HP power is also offered. The equipment includes 55 mm height-adjustable air suspension and 28 driver assistance sensors, including a lidar. The electronic system supports urban autonomous driving scenarios, emergency braking and obstacle avoidance at speeds of up to 130 km/h.

The D19’s interior focuses on digital convenience. The cabin features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch central display, a 21.4-inch elevated monitor for second-row passengers and a 60-inch augmented reality head-up display. Highlights include a refrigerator, a 23-speaker sound system and an integrated oxygen generator with a flow rate of 8 liters per minute. D19’s main competitors in the Chinese market include Li Auto L9, Aito M9, Nio ES8 and large models from Zeekr. Here Leapmotor aims to compete by combining price and technology: the basic model is sold for 219,800 yuan, while the most powerful version costs 269,800 yuan. For buyers, this is a practical argument: the newcomer offers the dimensions of a large family SUV, a range of up to 720 km and generous equipment without going into premium territory.
