Ghosts swept away With a regulatory revolution like the one experienced by Formula 1 in 2026, it was reasonable to think that the first contacts with the track would be problematic, especially on the power unit side. This was not the case and a total of 629 laps were covered by the nine drivers and seven teams who took to the track on the very first day of the Barcelona Shakedown.
As widely remembered, Ferrari, Aston Martin and McLaren have decided to skip Day-1, while Williams will only be seen in Bahrain. According to what was reported by The Race, the busiest team was Haas with 154 laps, accumulating over 700 km for the Ferrari power unit. Mercedes also did well, credited with 149 laps (even if the team declared 151) and Red Bull – which inaugurated the engine produced in Milton Keynes – with 107 laps. The phrase is not accidental, given that he mentioned the last great regulatory revolution of Formula 1, which saw the teams start with so many problems on that very first day at the end of January in Jerez de la Frontera.
