Isuzu reveals updated D-Max with a new 2.2-liter diesel engine and an all-electric variant at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2026, showcasing dual powertrains for commercial use.
Isuzu unveiled two versions of its D-Max pickup at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2026 in Birmingham: an updated diesel model with a new 2.2-liter engine and a fully electric variant. This dual launch signals the brand’s commitment to both traditional commercial vehicles and the growing electric market. The key update is a new 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine, which replaces the previous 1.9-liter unit. It produces 163 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired with either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.isuzu.co.ukThe pickup retains its off-road capabilities, with standard features including all-wheel drive with on-the-fly engagement, a low-range transfer case, a locking rear differential, and a dedicated off-road mode. It offers a payload capacity of up to 1,205 kg and can tow up to 3.5 tons.Alongside the diesel, Isuzu introduced the D-Max EV, its first fully electric commercial pickup. It features two electric motors with a combined output of 200 horsepower and 347 Nm, powered by a 66.9 kWh battery pack. With a range of around 262 km, the EV is less suited for long-haul trips. However, it maintains a payload capacity of over 1 ton and all-wheel drive, making it one of the first offerings of its kind in the UK market.Isuzu is not abandoning diesel despite the rise of electric vehicles. The simultaneous launch of the D-Max 2.2 and EV suggests the commercial vehicle sector isn’t yet ready for full electrification.Pricing starts at £33,495 for the diesel version, while the electric model begins at £59,995 excluding VAT. This price gap highlights the ongoing cost difference between traditional and electric models, which remains a key factor for buyers.
