The Red Bull-Ford power unit is a reality Red Bull presented the 2026 livery and the propulsion package set up on the Milton Keynes-Detroit axis. The Anglo-Austrian team is in fact ready to debut with its own engine, a milestone in the history of Red Bull which will in all respects be an all-round manufacturer now that it has started making its own engines rather than finding partnership agreements with other engine manufacturers. The ‘father’ of the Red Bull power unit is Ben Hodgkinson, taken from Mercedes in 2021 to supervise the genesis of the engine that will equip the Red Bulls and Racing Bulls in 2026. “Getting to this moment, in which we can finally present the first ever Red Bull Ford Powertrain, means a lot to me and to the hundreds of people who have poured their passion into this project with hours and hours of hard work – Hodgkinson’s words – the scale of this mission has been truly astounding. From the beginning, every element of this project started from scratch: the structures, the people, the design, the construction and finally the assembly. We started with Dietrich Mateschitz’s dream and the people here in Milton Keynes have made it a reality.
Hodgkinson: “We started from scratch and made Mateschitz’s dream come true”
