Almost a GP Ferrari chose Tuesday 27 January as the first of the three track days of the Barcelona Shakedown, entrusting the SF-26 to Charles Leclerc in the morning and to Lewis Hamilton in the afternoon. However, the weather did not smile on the redhead, making the track wet already about an hour and a half after the start of the session and no longer allowing the riders to run in the dry.
However, the planned work program went smoothly, given that there is not yet a need to evaluate performance, but rather more systems and reliability. Lewis Hamilton completed 57 laps, going on track shortly after 2.00pm and the alternation of compounds gives a good idea of the variability of the conditions found: from Full Wet he switched to Intermediate for 19 laps, before switching back to Full Wet for another 28 laps and finishing with Intermediate.
Considering that the Barcelona GP consists of 66 laps, it can be said that the Englishman has almost completed the distance of a grand prix. Lewis’s comment Lewis Hamilton entrusted the press release with the analysis of his first day on track in Barcelona: “It was an intense but productive first day, especially due to the variable weather conditions. We managed to complete quite a few kilometers with the car and collect a lot of useful data, which is particularly important with such a significant regulatory change. There were no significant problems and this gives us a solid base on which to continue to learn and build in the coming days.”
