Good news Ferrari closed its first day of testing on the Catalan track in Barcelona with satisfaction. Despite the rain that fell on the track starting in the late morning, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton completed a large number of laps: the Monegasque completed 64 laps in the morning session while Hamilton, in the afternoon, reached 57 despite the rain, alternating intermediate and full wet tyres. Overall, the SF-26 traveled approximately 560 km. Many km, few problems At the end of today’s session, Matteo Togninalli, Head of Track Engineering, of the Scuderia spoke. The Italian engineer underlined how the reliability of the new red single-seater seems good: certainly an encouraging sign at the beginning of a new regulatory era in F1. As regards performance and lap times, however, Togninalli invited everyone not to rely too much on the results that are emerging from the Spanish track. “Considering the weather conditions, ours was a productive day. Despite the rain, we completed a good number of kilometers and, above all, we did not encounter any significant reliability problems, which is the main priority when dealing with a new car and power unit. It is still very early to talk about performance – he recalled – now the focus is on understanding the car, learning its behavior and gaining confidence with it step by step over the next few days, focusing fundamentally on ourselves.”
