Groupe Renault marks one million electric vehicles produced in France

Renault’s one million EV milestone is as much an argument for sovereignty as it is an industrial record, and the timing is deliberate Groupe Renault has surpassed one million electric vehicles produced in France since 2010; Electricity, the northern French manufacturing hub, accounted for 600,000 of this total. This milestone reflects €13 billion (US$14.95 billion) of investment in French EV production since 2021, with the group committing a further €13 billion under its futuREAdy medium-term plan. The Electric center in Douai and Maubeuge has become Europe’s leading center for electric vehicle production within five years. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric builds on this momentum: 100,000 units have been produced by the end of 2025, and the plant is on track to exceed 200,000 units since launch. The scope of electrification has expanded beyond Renault to include Alpine, Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles, with Ford production also planned. The expansion demonstrates how a nationally anchored production model can attract third-party mandates and scale production in ways that a purely local strategy can rarely achieve. Groupe Renault employs approximately 39,000 people directly at its facilities in France, with a further 35,000 indirect jobs in its supplier network. Between 2022 and 2025, 700 permanent positions have been created in Electricity, with a further 300 people to be hired in 2027. Groupe Renault Chief Executive François Provost described the milestone as “a collective pride”, linking it to the group’s long-term commitment to France and its effort to maintain dominant industrial capacity against lower-cost international EV competition.
