GMC Jimmy SUV revival considered by GM for 2026 release

General Motors is exploring a revival of the GMC Jimmy SUV, a mid-size body-on-frame model with potential V8 engines, targeting the 2026 market.
General Motors is considering reviving the GMC Jimmy SUV. The project was previously in development but was canceled as priorities shifted toward electrification.Originally, the model was planned as a mid-size body-on-frame SUV to compete with the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Bronco, and Jeep Wrangler. Internally, the vehicle was described as powerful and versatile, with consideration given to installing a V8 engine.According to sources, GM has returned to the project amid changes in emissions regulations and fuel efficiency standards. This has allowed the automaker to revisit plans, including the potential use of new Gen 6 Small Block V8 engines that will also appear on the Corvette and 2027 pickup trucks.The return of the GMC Jimmy could fill a gap in the brand’s lineup, which currently lacks a mid-size SUV.
