At the Melbourne auto show, Geely unveiled two new plug-in hybrid models to gauge Australian market interest in future offerings. The duo consists of the mid-size Emgrand EM-i sedan and the large six-seat M9 SUV. Both are already on sale in China, where they’re marketed as the Starshine 6 and Galaxy M9 respectively.Ashur Varde, Geely’s Australian product manager, told journalists at the event that the brand is considering launching these models locally depending on consumer reception. While the Corolla-sized Emgrand is sold overseas with two gasoline engine options, Varde noted that the version proposed for Australia has undergone significant changes and features Geely’s EM-i hybrid technology. The Australian representative also emphasized that neither the Geely Emgrand EM-i sedan nor the M9 crossover has been officially confirmed for the local market at this stage.
