Discussions continue on the Mercedes engine, capable of working at high temperatures at a higher compression ratio than the regulatory limit measured when cold. On January 22nd, a first technical meeting was held between the FIA and the manufacturers, which was updated to a new session reserved for engine engineers. Enrico Gualtieri, head of the Ferrari power unit area, expressed his opinion on the matter, confident that the matter will be resolved promptly. New meeting scheduled At the moment the Federation has not yet decided how to intervene on the solution studied by Mercedes and perhaps also by Red Bull-Ford. During the first meeting the parties involved tried to develop a new process that allows the compression ratio to be measured even when hot and not only at room temperature, as currently required by the regulation. However, it is not clear whether the new procedure will debut already during the current season or in 2027. At Ferrari, however, the head of the engine area Enrico Gualtieri says he is optimistic that the matter will be resolved in the coming weeks: “We are addressing the issue together with the FIA and we are still discussing it with them. We have had a technical meeting and we will have another in the next few days of the PUAC, the Power Unit Advisory Committee. We place our trust in them to manage the matter in the best way, through the procedures and governance established by the regulations. We have blind faith that this process can be concluded in the next few days or weeks.”
