But is there an agreement or not? Last May 8, the International Federation explained that an agreement had been reached between the FIA, FOM, teams and engine manufacturers for an intervention to be implemented in 2027 which would bring the ratio between the thermal and electrical parts to 60:40. The plan envisaged an increase in fuel flow and a simultaneous reduction in electric power, but something seems to have gone wrong and there is quite a bit of discussion behind the scenes on the final proposal to then be presented to the World Motorsport Council for final approval. This morning, in fact, it emerged that Mercedes and Red Bull were the only engine manufacturers to give the green light to the new features, while Ferrari – for reasons linked to the ADUO system – and Audi – for cost reasons – have raised more than one doubt about the introduction of these new features as early as next season. Auto Motor und Sport: “There is already a compromise on the table” The Germans from Auto, Motor und Sport underlined that the teams are also resisting for economic reasons, because the increased fuel flow would require the construction of new bodies, with an increase in the spending ceiling in the order of a few million dollars.
The issue would be particularly delicate, as many teams had planned to race with the same chassis for 2027 as well. In the face of all these complaints, the FIA would have already put forward a compromise solution, which had already arrived at the discussion table. These are changes to be implemented in two phases. The first, from 2027 would see a moderate increase in fuel flow – which would not involve the construction of new chassis and new tanks -, with the length of the GPs being reduced by a few laps.
The second phase, starting from 2028, would thus see the implementation of the 60:40 split in favor of thermal energy. Click here to add Formula Passion as your favorite source on Google Discover: you will find our content more easily!
