Continental’s Largest US Tire Plant, Mount Vernon, Receives ISCC PLUS Sustainability Certification
Receiving ISCC PLUS certification, the Mount Vernon facility became the first certified tire plant in the USA in line with Continental’s global sustainability goals. With these steps taken on a global scale, Continental strengthens its approach that prioritizes sustainability, traceability and resource efficiency in the products it offers to the Turkish market.
Continental’s Mount Vernon tire plant in Illinois, USA, has been awarded the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (ISCC PLUS), becoming the company’s first facility in the USA to receive this certification. The globally accepted ISCC PLUS standard certifies that the documentation requirements for the use of renewable and recycled raw materials are met and that the raw materials used in the production process are fully traceable in a transparent manner.
This certification is an important step towards Continental’s goal of providing at least 40 percent of the production materials used in its tires from renewable and recycled sources by 2030.
Continental, which previously received the ISCC PLUS certificate for its Otrokovice facility in the Czech Republic and its Hefei factory in China, continues to strengthen sustainable and resource-efficient tire production on a global scale by integrating alternative raw materials such as synthetic rubber and bio-based carbon black obtained from pyrolysis oil into its production processes, with the certification of the Mount Vernon facility in the USA, thanks to the mass balance approach.
