SEAL U DM-i closes out 2025 as Britain’s most popular plug-in hybrid
BYD UK wrapped up 2025 in record-breaking fashion, ending the year with a total number of 51,422 vehicle registrations.
That result ranked BYD as the sixth biggest-selling brand in the nation in December*. It also cemented BYD’s position as the leading New Energy Vehicle manufacturer (both battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids) in the UK, with a 12.01% share of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) in December.
The SEAL U DM-i SUV was not only the most popular model in the BYD lineup, but also the biggest selling plug-in hybrid in the UK in 2025. Of BYD’s battery electric vehicle family, the Dolphin Surf city car achieved the highest registrations. Indeed, its sales performance ranked it as the fourth best-selling BEV in the country in December.
Speaking on the news, Bono Ge, Country Manager of BYD UK, said:“Ending 2025 with 51,422 registrations is an unbelievable achievement for BYD UK, and I would like to sincerely thank our customers for their enthusiasm for the brand and their confidence in our advanced EV and DM-i technologies. This result is further proof that our wide range of award-winning New Energy Vehicles (both Battery Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicles) are proving to be hugely desirable with both private and fleet buyers.
Now we’re looking ahead to 2026. Our DM-i plug-in hybrid range is set to grow further; the new SEALION 5 DM-i and ATTO 2 DM-i are due to join the range shortly, while the SEAL 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring are very recently introduced. With more to come from the BEV lineup too, this year looks set to be even bigger than the last.”
