BMW is considering the development of a new flagship SUV that could compete with the Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The project is currently in the discussion phase, but the company confirms its interest in expanding its model lineup.According to Neue Klasse Vice President Mike Reichelt, the brand is exploring various options, including the introduction of new technologies and powertrain choices. Fully electric versions are being considered, along with hybrid or gasoline solutions.The future model might carry the internal designation G74 and become the most off-road-capable BMW. The company is likely to retain a unibody construction instead of a body-on-frame design, taking inspiration from the Range Rover concept rather than traditional off-roaders.The new vehicle is expected to replace the current XM, which hasn’t gained widespread popularity. The involvement of BMW M division in developing a version focused on dynamics and off-road capability is also not ruled out. If the project gets approval, the new model could debut around 2029. It will be part of a strategy for new vehicles that combine luxury, technology, and enhanced off-road capability.
