BMW i7 update: 33% lower carbon footprint with eco-friendly production

BMW is preparing an updated i7 that will be significantly more environmentally friendly than its predecessor. According to the company, the model’s carbon footprint will be reduced by up to 33% thanks to new production technologies and materials. For the electric vehicle segment, this is an important step toward a complete “green” transformation.The main focus is not on operation but on the vehicle creation process. BMW uses recycled materials and renewable energy sources for battery production. The company emphasizes that the goal is not just to produce electric cars but to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the entire production chain.The flagship sedan will get sixth-generation batteries (Gen6), developed with Rimac’s involvement. Their production will be completely switched to renewable energy. Additionally, the construction uses secondary materials—including recycled lithium, cobalt, and nickel. Even the wheels will consist of 70% recycled aluminum.The i7 project is part of a broader strategy. The Dingolfing plant is already being modernized to meet new environmental standards. It is expected that similar solutions will be applied to other models, including the future 5 Series. Thus, BMW is scaling “clean” production across its entire lineup.
