The Milton Keynes team seems to have done a good job for the first home-made power unit, but naturally it is still very early to make any judgments and it is likely that the Red Bull-powered teams have pushed a lot on this side: the times from the morning in Bahrain remain, which see the four-time world champion prevail in 1:35.433, with Oscar Piastri second at 169 thousandths and George Russell third at half a second. Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari is exactly one second behind and seems to move a lot at the rear during acceleration. For the seven-time world champion there was also a spin without consequences at the start of the session in turn-1. Naturally there is a lot of margin in terms of lap time (for these three days the softest compound will be the C3) and the teams have not sought performance in the same way, as demonstrated by the almost five second gap between Verstappen and Franco Colapinto. The Argentine himself completed only 28 laps as he stopped for a long time due to a technical problem, which also caused the only red flag of the first four hours of testing.
