The FIA ranking will not change The first verdicts of the ADUO have been in the public domain for a month now – the teams were informed by the Federation at the Monaco weekend – but they have not yet been made official (they will be made official as the Belgian GP in Spa approaches in two weeks). Red Bull was surprisingly classified as the industry leader in terms of the combustion engine and for this reason it will not be able to intervene and improve its engine. The Milton Keynes team has asked the FIA for explanations and the Federation will give them this weekend at Silverstone. According to what was reported by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, in fact, Nick Tombazis will meet Oliver Mintzlaff and Mark Mateschitz. Next week, however, a meeting with team principal Laurent Mekies is on the agenda. The FIA assigned the reanalysis of the data that led to the ADUO ranking to ten people who spent eight days reanalyzing the material. The Federation will not change the outcome of the first tranche of the ADUO. According to the Dutch newspaper, there is a widespread opinion in the paddock that there was a bit of naivety on the part of Mekies and his men in managing this matter on a political level. Being first in the ADUO ranking – it has been known for years that the measurements would be carried out only and exclusively on the combustion engine – puts Red Bull in a trap because if its rivals focus on the electrical part they will never surpass the combustion engine built on the Milton Keynes-Ford axis. “Horner and Marko were figures who knew very well how to play political games like this – writes the author of the article Erik Van Haren – Mekies and his team should have grasped the political dynamics behind the scenes first, just what Ferrari did, for example, which has been attentive to these dynamics for months”.
