In a LinkedIn post, Siddhant Awasthi described his departure as “one of the hardest decisions of my life.” He wrote: “Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day have the opportunity to lead the Cybertruck program and bring it to reality. It’s been an absolute privilege filled with mostly high-intensity days—working alongside talented, driven, and truly rockstar colleagues across Tesla.” In his post, Awasthi thanked Elon Musk personally, as well as “all Tesla leaders (past and present), mentors, and our amazing customers.”Awasthi currently only lists himself on LinkedIn as “Ex-Tesla.” His next career move is not yet known. He had been in charge of the Cybertruck programme since September 2022, and since July 2025, his CV also included the position of “Model 3 Programme Manager,” a role he held alongside his Cybertruck responsibilities. His renewed involvement with the Model 3 effectively brought his Tesla career full circle: in 2018 and 2019, he worked on the production lines for the Model 3 at Giga Shanghai. The Cybertruck was once Tesla’s flagship project, intended to open up the large US pickup truck market. Elon Musk had originally planned annual production of up to 250,000 units, but even in 2024, its first full year on sale, the model fell far short of that target. So far, 2025 has been even weaker: in the first nine months of the year, Tesla sold only 16,907 Cybertrucks, representing a 38 per cent decline compared with the same period in the previous year, when sales reached 25,974 units.linkedin.com, electrek.co
