Stellantis Goes to Platform Revolution: All Models Will Meet in a Single Infrastructure
Stellantis is preparing for a major platform transformation that will reduce costs and accelerate development processes in the automotive world. Within the scope of the new strategy announced by CEO Antonio Filosa, the group will significantly simplify its current platform structure.
The company’s goal is to build 50 percent of its global sales on just three main platforms by 2030.
STLA Small, Medium and Large Become History
Stellantis will phase out the existing STLA Small, Medium and Large platforms. Instead of these, a new generation mega platform called “STLA One” will be used as of 2027.
New platform; It is being developed to cover all vehicles in B, C and D segments. The company announced that STLA One will replace five different platforms and provide infrastructure for more than 30 models.
The First Model Will Be the New Peugeot 208
The first model to use the new platform is expected to be the new generation 208 signed by Peugeot.
With STLA One, Stellantis’ new digital technologies will also come into play. These include STLA Brain electronic architecture, STLA SmartCockpit system and steer-by-wire steering technology.
In particular, it was previously announced that the steer-by-wire system will be used in the future Peugeot 208.
Electric and Hybrid on the Same Platform
STLA One will not focus only on electric cars. The platform is being developed to support both fully electric and hybrid engine options.
One of Stellantis’ biggest goals is to reduce costs. Thanks to the new platform, the company plans to provide a 20 percent cost advantage compared to existing infrastructures.
In line with this target, it will be possible to reuse up to 70 percent of the parts.
Vehicle Development Time is Almost Halved
The new architecture will provide significant advantages not only in terms of cost but also time.
Antonio Filosa announced that they aim to reduce the new model development period, which currently takes an average of 44 months, to 24 months. This approach aims to provide a competitive advantage, especially against the rapid model development pace of Chinese manufacturers.
800 Volt Technology and New Generation Batteries Are Coming
The STLA One platform will also be ready for 800 volt electrical architecture for upper segment models.
Additionally, LFP batteries can also be used in a structure that supports different battery chemistries. The batteries will be integrated directly into the body of the vehicle thanks to “cell-to-body” technology.
This system will both reduce weight and increase efficiency.
Target: 2 Million Vehicles per Year
Stellantis defines the STLA One platform as the “mega platform” of the future.
According to the company’s plan, this infrastructure will support the production of more than 2 million vehicles per year by 2035 and will be at the center of the group’s global production strategy.
