ABB invested in OctaiPipe, which develops artificial intelligence-supported cooling optimization solutions to increase energy efficiency in data centers in line with its goal of a sustainable future.
ABB–OctaiPipe collaboration Thanks to the cooling systems of data centers Up to 30% energy saving is aimed to be provided.
Switzerland-based automation and electrification technology leader ABB made a strategic investment in UK-based OctaiPipe, which makes cooling processes in data centers more efficient with artificial intelligence. The artificial intelligence-based software developed by OctaiPipe optimizes the cooling need in the most accurate way by instantly analyzing air and liquid flow in data centers. By combining this software with its own electrification and automation solutions, ABB aims to reduce energy consumption while increasing operational continuity and system durability.
With this collaboration, ABB will provide more smart, efficient and sustainable cooling solutions aims to present.
While global data center capacity demand is expected to grow between 19 and 22 percent annually from 2023 to 2030, this is also rapidly increasing energy consumption. In 2024, data centers accounted for approximately 1.5 percent of the world’s total electricity consumption. Cooling systems alone account for an average of 40 percent of a facility’s electricity consumption. ABB, which aims to maximize energy efficiency in all its products for a sustainable future, invested in OctaiPipe’s Federated AI solution to maximize the energy efficiency and operational durability of data centers’ cooling systems. Federated AI enables energy savings of up to 30 percent in the cooling systems of data centers without requiring any hardware renewal.
Eric Topham, CEO and co-founder of OctaiPipe, said in his statement on the subject: “Data centers are the locomotives of the digital economy; however, it is not possible for them to continue sustainably without radical innovations in energy consumption. Think of our Federated AI platform as an orchestra conductor; it intelligently adjusts the performance of the cooling system according to the level actually needed. By joining forces with ABB, we are helping data centers prepare their infrastructures for the future.”
Ankush Gulati, ABB Motion Service Business Line Energy Efficiency Program Leader, said: “Energy efficiency is key to making production facilities more agile, cleaner and more efficient. This is not a choice, it is a necessity. By integrating OctaiPipe’s advanced artificial intelligence technology, we are expanding our proven solution portfolio with advanced software capabilities and enabling data centers to optimize energy consumption in the cooling infrastructure. While it is predicted that the US economy will consume more electricity for data processing than all high energy-consuming industries in 2030.” “The impact potential of this investment is quite large,” he said.
Federated AI dynamically optimizes cooling set points using advanced and proprietary AI technologies; While doing this, it ensures safety and compliance with regulations. This AI’s privacy-first in-house architecture; It also offers the best solution for data center operators who are cautious about cloud-based solutions.
