Ford’s recent product roadmap has sparked concern in the auto industry, as the company has canceled and delayed various models, many of which are part of the transition to electric vehicles. With the temporary interruption of production of the F-150 Lightning pick-up and the decision to abandon three-row electric vehicles, the US company is in fact in a significant restructuring phase. But despite the difficulties, it does not intend to give up the potential of the electricity market. Ford is thinking of a rear-wheel drive EV sedan. In this sense, the launch of a new medium-sized pick-up is expected, scheduled for 2027, which will be based on the Universal EV platform. But not only that: among the expected innovations, there are also rumors of a high-performance rear-wheel drive sedan. Carscoops reports that during Monterey Car Week, Ford CEO Jim Farley spoke of this car as if it were a project shrouded in mystery, hinting at a clean silhouette and an optimization of interior space. According to Farley, “there is definitely a market for sedans, a huge market.” Evolving market Farley himself also highlighted the lessons learned from the difficulties encountered in the past, where sedans built on European platforms proved unprofitable on the American market. It is no coincidence that the current strategy aims to invest in more popular vehicles such as Bronco and Maverick, to the detriment of the Fusion, considered no longer competitive. Ford’s vision is therefore evolving in the direction of diversifying its range, keeping alive the idea of a sedan that can respond to the needs of a changing market.
