VW company spokesman announced that the summer holiday break at the factory will be extended by one week and additional days when production will not be carried out are planned.
The spokesperson cited the traditional seasonal fluctuations in demand for open-top (T-Roc Cabriolet) vehicles as the reason for the decision.
It was stated that such vehicles are generally ordered in the spring and summer months, and that the demand drops significantly in the second half of the year.
The Volkswagen Group Works Council also stated that the original plan, which envisaged the production volume of the T-Roc Cabriolet model to be maintained until September next year, was no longer valid.
The council stated that the management board must urgently offer employees at the Osnabrück facility a concrete future perspective going forward. T-Roc Cabriolet production at the factory in question will continue only until next year.
The future of the factory, which employs approximately 2,300 people, remains uncertain after this date.
Negotiations with defense industry companies continue
In the last statement made by Volkswagen management, it was stated that “sustainable perspectives” regarding the facility, where current production will end in 2027, were evaluated and contacts with different market actors were continuing.
Following the news in the international press, the company confirmed that negotiations were being held with companies in the defense industry sector regarding the future of the factory in question.
