Low profile The smiles of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after the Formula 1 shakedown in Barcelona were sincere: from the whispers that leaked from Maranello, there is a moderate optimism for what was seen on the SF-26, a positive mood certainly higher than the first impact on the track last year. The low profile imposed for this start of 2026 remains, despite the checks carried out in Barcelona all going well, because Mercedes is looked at with a certain fear, also due to the significant mileage put on the track so far. The Bahrain tests which will start tomorrow will begin to provide answers, at least for the start of the world championship. Vigna asks for cohesion During the conference call with financial analysts, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna was asked what the team’s prospects are for the upcoming season: “2026 will be interesting for Formula 1, because everything changes. But now we wait, we have only done the tests in Barcelona. The first real tests will be this week and next in Bahrain, so let’s see. The team needs to work in a unique and cohesive way to achieve results, as done in the WEC”. Benedetto Vigna then continued, as reported by La Stampa, focusing on the changes in F1: “The cars are different, the engines are different, the suspensions are different. Before there were two electric motors and now there is one, the one that is there is more powerful, the tires are different, everything has changed in this sense. Then we will have sustainable petrols. So it will certainly give the fans the opportunity to see different things. The car is smaller and therefore should also allow for easier overtaking, so easier. And then there will also be an extra team, 11, so there are 22 cars running on the circuits instead of 20. For this reason the probability of overtaking increases”
