A winger who amazes on Ferrari
During the Bahrain tests, on the Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari SF-26 one appearedinnovative rear wing capable of tipping over and not just to open up, like all the others. This particular wing obviously caught the attention of both fans and rivals, curious to understand how it works and the advantages that could derive from such an unconventional solution.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur said with a smile that internally it was called ‘Macarena‘, specifying that he does not yet have a clear horizon for its introduction in a race weekend.
The technical director Loic Serra then explained that he had identified a regulatory gap which allowed us to maximize the active aerodynamics and the attitude assumed by the wing in a straight line and therefore to have worked on this innovative solution.
When will Ferrari bring the Macarena winger to the race?
Colleagues of AutoRacer.it have dedicated an in-depth study to the ‘reverse’ wing, underlining how the one seen in Bahrain was only a prototype to verify its mechanical functioning, to be perfected in the following weeks in the factory in Maranello.
From the test it was assessed that the Macarena winger it would be capable of giving the SF-26 an extra boost of 4-5 kW in a straight line.
The technicians are working on a version improved in terms of opening and closing speed and design.
When will we see it on a race weekend? Maranello has set how deadline is the Canadian Grand Prix, seventh stage of the world championshipbut with the real hope of bringing forward its introduction by a few weeks.
