The new Volvo EX90 three-row electric SUV, whose North American launch was delayed by a year due to development setbacks (particularly with software), is already on the way out—at least in Canada.Due to the counter-tariffs of 25 percent that came into effect last April on American-made vehicles that do not comply with the terms of the USMCA, Volvo has made the decision not to import it into Canada for 2026, as Automotive News reports. In other words, unless the trade negotiations between Canada and the U.S. work out in 2026, the EX90 will have stayed for just one model year (2025) in Canada.Photo: Louis-Philippe DubéThat’s disappointing, especially since Volvo had just made significant improvements to the EX90. These included a much more powerful dual-core computer, new and improved safety, collision avoidance and driver assistance features, plus a new 800V architecture that not only allows for faster charging speeds (up to 250 km of range in just 10 minutes), but also provides more power and better acceleration. On the other hand, the loss of the Volvo EX90 will hardly impact Volvo Canada’s bottom line considering its very low sales. Due in particular to its high price of $113,688 (including fees), only 143 units were sold nationwide during the first 11 months of 2025, representing approximately one percent of the company’s total sales. A few leftovers are still available at dealerships.Photo: Louis-Philippe DubéBy the way, the EX90 is the only Volvo vehicle assembled in the U.S., alongside the Polestar 3. The latter is also benefitting from a major update for 2026, but Polestar Canada has yet to announce its plans. The 2025 model is currently being sold with a huge $20,000 discount. In related EV news, since the federal government’s $5,000 incentive program is not returning, Volvo Canada has decided to lower the base price of the EX30 by approximately $4,000 for the 2026 model year to compensate. This small crossover now starts at $53,638 (including fees).Photo: Dominic BoucherWith production now taking place in Belgium rather than China, the EX30 can continue its young career without being impacted by tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. A Cross Country variant with a focus on adventure is also new for 2026. The EX30 boasts an ideal size for urban environments and enables a range of 365-420 km depending on the trim level and configuration.Watch: The Car Guide Drives the 2025 Volvo EX30
