Fleet of 350 trucks operating 24/7 in Guinea’s bauxite belt represents one of the most demanding commercial vehicle deployments in Africa Renault Trucks and UMS United Mining Supply have signed a ten-year partnership supporting bauxite mining operations in Guinea; A fleet of 350 Renault Trucks K vehicles currently transports ore from mining sites to port facilities in the Boké region around the clock. More than 600 vehicles have been delivered to UMS since the partnership with local distributor TGH Plus launched in 2016. Guinea is the world’s leading exporter of bauxite and UMS operates its fleet across challenging terrain, with each vehicle covering more than 190,000 kilometers per year, bringing the total fleet mileage to over 66 million kilometres. Fleet availability is ensured by more than 150 in-house mechanics working three rotating shifts, supported by an on-site spare parts inventory managed in coordination with Renault Trucks. Field experience directly informed Renault Trucks’ vehicle development, while joint monthly analysis of telematics data shaped fuel efficiency and operational cycle decisions; Adaptations originally developed for UMS were later incorporated into the wider range of products for harsh environments. Annual training programs covering technicians, drivers and in-house trainers are supported by biannual expert visits focusing on eco-driving practices and safety. The commercial relationship illustrates a broader shift in how truck manufacturers are structuring long-term fleet contracts in mining industries, where uptime guarantees and integrated support are becoming as important as initial vehicle specification.
