The slimming cure worked Max Verstappen in 2026, especially in Qualifying, he had already made some significant gains. In Miami and Monaco, for example, he brought the Red Bull RB22 to the front row, feats that were then thwarted in the very first meters of the race. In Florida Verstappen spun and found himself in the middle of the group, in Monaco he practically didn’t start. In Austria the situation was reversed, the RB22 betrayed Verstappen in Q3 with a technical knockout that caused it to go off the track at the end of the second flying lap, but redemption came in the race with the second place finish which represents the best result of the season for the Milton Keynes team. An important update package has arrived in Austria in addition to the second slimming step of the RB22 (the first arrived in Miami). Furthermore, as highlighted by the AutoRacer.it newspaper, the hypothesis is circulating in the paddock that Red Bull Powertrains uses the largest turbocharger on the grid, together with particularly generous intake ducts. On a circuit located at over 600 meters above sea level, with less dense air, this configuration could have represented an additional advantage. Furthermore, this hypothesis is corroborated by the Red Bull’s difficulties at the start, a direct consequence of the ‘turbo-lag’, the response delay of the turbo which, the larger it is, the longer it takes to get up to speed.
