Automotive giant Stellantis is preparing to take an important step in the hybrid vehicle market. The company announced that it will develop a total of 24 new full hybrid models in the B, C and D segments within the scope of the FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan. With this move, Stellantis will enter direct competition for the first time in the field of full hybrid technology, which has been dominated by Toyota and Renault for many years.
Founded in 2021 by the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Stellantis has until now only offered plug-in hybrid (PHEV), mild hybrid (MHEV) and range-extending electric systems through its brands. The inclusion of full hybrid technology in the product range is seen as the beginning of a new era for the company.
60 New Models by 2030
According to the FaSTLAne 2030 plan announced by Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, the group will launch a total of 60 new models by the end of the decade. 24 of these models will be equipped with full hybrid engine technology.
While the new vehicles are planned to be positioned in the B, C and D segments, the models are expected to be built on Stellantis’ new generation multi-energy platform STLA One. The platform in question was developed to support electric, hybrid and internal combustion engine vehicles on the same infrastructure.
Competition Is Intensifying
This decision by Stellantis comes after Volkswagen’s recently announced full hybrid transformation. The German manufacturer is preparing to offer new generation full hybrid engine options in Golf and T-Roc models starting from the last quarter of 2026.
Thus, Europe’s two largest automotive groups will begin to take a stronger place in the rapidly growing hybrid market.
Will Challenge the Domination of Toyota and Renault
Full hybrid technology is still advancing on a global scale, largely under Toyota’s leadership. In the European market, Renault stands out as one of the strongest competitors in this field. Stellantis’ new investment is of strategic importance, especially at a time when emission rules are tightening and the transition to electric vehicles is being reshaped.
