And Macarena? Max Verstappen was furious at the end of the British Grand Prix: for the second time in the last three races (it had already happened in Austria) a defect in the rear wing of his Red Bull had violently sent him off the track.
As is known, the one mounted on the RB22 is not a traditional rear wing, but a conceptual typology very similar to the ‘Macarena’ first seen on the Ferrari SF-26. The FIA wants to see clearly. Verstappen’s two accidents have not left the FIA indifferent, always attentive to safety.
The English people from The Race have in fact revealed that the Federation has started a dialogue with Red Bull and Ferrari (the only two to currently fit this type of technical solution) to discuss what happened. In recent days, the FIA has therefore summoned the technical managers of the two teams to see more clearly on the safety side, after having given the necessary green light at the beginning of the season to the Macarena of both Ferrari and Red Bull.
Max Verstappen’s statements probably also had their weight, given that the four-time world champion was the first to raise the safety issue: “It’s fine for it to happen once, it can happen. But twice it becomes dangerous.” What can happen? It would be paradoxical for Ferrari to be asked to intervene on its Macarena project without ever having had reliability problems with its rear wing. But it could happen, because the FIA could impose extra safety measures or even decide to immediately ban the use of the solution.
